Next iOS Upgrade Will Allow Users To Disable Intentional Slowdown

Apple faced serious backlash after reports that software updates to the operating system of iPhones were intentionally slowing down older models of the popular device. Apple said the reason for the intentional slowdown was to protect the phones from issues relating to degradation of the lithium-ion batteries that power them.

Apple CEO Tim Cook, said the company is looking to resolve the issue, and said that an upcoming iOS release will allow users to prevent the deliberate slow down of their phone, though he does not recommend it, according to The Verge.

Cook shared some more information about the update with ABC News. He said update will allow users to check on the health of their battery, noting that "all batteries age over time." He also pointed out the company has lowered the prices of replacement batteries, but will not give them away for free.

The new update is expected to be rolled out to the pubic in March.
